Jungle adventure and climb

Overview

This trip is designed for the more experienced outdoor adventurist. Travel from the mountains to the jungles while enjoying hiking, camping and two days of white water rafting along the way. The waterfalls on our trip are some of the biggest and best the country has to offer. On a clear day you can witness the breathtaking views of the mountains and cities of Ecuador. (The shorter version of this tour simply leaves out most of days 5-7 of the longer version.)

Places

Papallacta

Papallacta is known for its many natural hot spring pools. Situated in the Andes Mountains, this town offers a great view of snow covered Mount Antisana.

El Chaco

This jungle town, while small, offers great white water rafting and sightseeing for waterfalls and birds.

Arrival

Arrive in Quito and travel to your hotel.

Camping in Papallacta

Quito mountain Travel to Papallacta mid-morning. Take a hike in the highlands and if the weather is clear enjoy the beautiful views of Mount Antisana. Spend the night camping out under the stars.

Hot Springs

Pack up your gear and head out. Arrive at your hotel in Papallacta late afternoon. Spend the evening relaxing in the natural hot springs.

Whitewater Rafting Chaco

Travel to the town of Chaco and experience an all-day whitewater rafting trip on class IV rapids! Spend the night in Chaco.

Waterfalls

Waterfall

Make a morning visit to Coca Falls (“Cascadas de San Rafael”) and witness Ecuador’s largest waterfall at approximately 500ft high. Enjoy an afternoon hike with close-up views of smaller waterfalls ranging around 100ft. Stay overnight in the town of Tena.

Tena

In the morning, explore the Jumandy caves of Tena then travel on to the town of Baños, sneaking a taste of some local pulled taffy. Take a detour along the way to visit the ‘Pilon del Diablo’ waterfall and soar along a kilometer long zipline above the riverbed.

Whitewater Rafting Baños

Experience another day of whitewater rafting on class III and IV rapids! Return to Quito.

Climb Rucu

Take the gondola ride up to an overlook of the city and climb Ruco Pichincha at 15,696ft. From here you can admire the beautiful views of the city and surrounding peaks.

Mitad del Mundo and a crater hike

Visit the ‘Middle of the World’ monument and see exhibitions of Ecuadorian culture. Shop local artisans and take home a souvenir. Explore a small ancient ruins site and hike down into the crater of Pululagua.

Departure

Transportation will be provided to take you to the airport. For those with an evening flight, additional sightseeing of Quito can be arranged upon request.
